Max Schober Memorial Scholarship Guidelines

  1. The Scholarship will be known as the Max Schober Memorial Scholarship Trust.
     

  2. Scholarships will be awarded annually to selected year 10 students from Northern Territory secondary schools to assist them to complete their senior studies, ie., years 11 and 12, in an approved Northern Territory school or college.
     

  3. The value of each Scholarship will be $8,000, payable in eight quarterly (half-semester) instalments of $1,000, four in year 11 and four in year 12.
     

  4. Applications will be called in October each year by notification to all Northern Territory secondary schools, government and non-government.
     

  5. Except in circumstances agreed by the Trustees, applicants should be below the age of 18 at the time of application.
     

  6. Living Away from Home Allowance for isolated students does not debar a candidate from the Schober Scholarship.
     

  7. Applications will only be considered from students whose parents/guardians certify that the adjusted family income (after tax and after deducting $5000 for each dependent) does not exceed $50000 per year.
     

  8. Application will be considered on the basis of:

    (i) letter of application from the student;

    (ii) letter of support from the parent or guardian (unless the applicant is an independent student, as verified by the school);

    (iii) reference from the school as to the academic achievement, motivation and general character of the candidate;

    (iv) evidence of family income.
     

  9. Successful applicants will be selected by the Trustees of the Scholarship on the basis of:

    (i)   academic achievement,
    (ii)  motivation,
    (iii)  general character.
     

  10. The offer of a Scholarship will be made subject to the acceptance of these Scholarship guidelines by the candidate and parent/guardian concerned.
     

  11. Continuation of the Scholarship will be dependent on a candidate's:

    (i)   continued enrolment
    (ii)   satisfactory attendance
    (iii)  satisfactory progress in the course.

    Confirmation of this will be sought by the Trustees from the relevant school on a semester basis.
     

  12. Payment of the Scholarship will be by cheque to the parent or guardian each term (half semester).
     

  13. Any variations to the above guidelines or consideration of specific problems will be at the discretion of the Trustees:
