Q. What evidence is required of the family’s financial situation?
A. Most often evidence is provided by a copy of the most recent taxation assessment for the parent or guardian or an statement of income from an employer, or government authority where the parent or guardian is in receipt of a government benefit. Where there is an unusual circumstance the financial situation of the student or family may be attested by the school or college.

Q. Are there particular subject or course requirements for an applicant to be considered?
A. The applicant must indicate he or she is qualified and motivated to complete a course that will lead to a recognised Year 12 Certificate. Programs of study can include both academic and vocational subjects.

Q. What if a Territory student wants to study at an interstate boarding school?
A. Scholarships can only be awarded to students who study at a Northern Territory schools or college, whether as a boarding or day student.

Q. Are applications considered from students who have been home-schooled?
A. Applications are considered from students who have been home-schooled up to year 10, provided they undertake their year 11 and 12 programs in a Northern Territory school or college. Such students should contact the Secretary to discuss their application requirements.

Q. What about students who are undertaking their senior courses by distance education?
A. Applications are considered from students who are undertaking their senior studies by distance education through the Northern Territory Open Education Centre, provided they are full time students.

Q. What if a student moves interstate during their senior program?
A. Students must complete their course of study in a Northern Territory school or college. Where a student transfers to a school or college interstate, the scholarship is terminated.

Q. Can a scholarship be suspended?
A. In special circumstances a scholarship can be suspended for up to 12 months. Such circumstances could include prolonged illness, time taken to complete an overseas scholarship involving attendance at a schools or college in another country, or significant changes in family circumstances. Each case will be considered on its merits. Students should contact the Secretary to discuss the circumstances.

Q. Are applications considered from independent students?
A. Applications are considered from independent students, where these applications are supported by the student’s school or college.

Q. To whom is the scholarship payable, the student or to the parent or guardian?
A. Scholarship payments are made by direct transfer to a bank account nominated by the family or, in the case of an independent student, by the student. Scholarships can be paid either to a student’s own account or to an account held by a parent or guardian.

Q. Does the Max Schober Scholarship Pty Ltd guarantee the security of information provided?
A. Yes. All applications and supporting documents are treated as confidential and used only by the Trustees to assess and administer the scholarship scheme. In some circumstances students or their families may request that information be passed on or confirmed to a third party. The Trustees do maintain contact with schools and colleges to ensure that students are enrolled and progressing satisfactorily in their chosen course of study.
